Names such as Socrates, Plato, Zeus and Medussa bring us back to the mythological world of Greece, where many famous and well-known gods, beasts, titans and philosophers were born. Many thoughts and beliefs were put into creating this ancient civilisation that once influenced the lives of the entire humankind, but how much still remains intact to keep modern Greece, and even Europe, strong and prosperous in this era when the region is battered by severe economic and social turbulences. Darryl has taken a peek at Greece and its neighbour, Albania, last December to find out what has become of this ancient civilisation, and how its philosophies can or perhaps fail, to help salvage the nation.

About the Speaker:
Darryl Chan has changed from a timid backpacker to a slow paced ‘drag-packer.’ He has never failed to find time to visit off-the-beaten-track destinations every year. Drag-packing has not only challenged his perceptions of life, but has also provided plentiful opportunities for him to ‘externalise’ what he has learnt from the Buddha and His teachings in real, unfamiliar situations. He is invited to speak occasionally on topics such as communication and people-related. He is also a temple-and-museum tour guide trainer for KMSPKS. Darryl strives to explore and learn new insights through travelling and museums visit; in addition, he would like to share his views and experiences with you at his regular Buddhist Backpacker series @ Y.talk.
